- Timing that matters. Arrive 45 minutes before sunset. Weekdays are calmer than weekends. Skip the overlook at the top of the hour, when tour groups land.
- Rain and crowd backups. Rain: swap sunset for the Audubon Aquarium or Jax Brewery. Crowds: walk five minutes upriver past the Natchez dock for the same view.

The Easy Family Weekend

A stress-free family weekend in the Crescent City: kid-friendly spots, nap-friendly timing, and meals everyone will actually enjoy.
- The exact spots. Saturday: Carousel Gardens in City Park for the antique “Flying Horses” carousel. Sunday: the St. Charles streetcar out to Audubon Park for a picnic.
- Dated prices. Carousel rides plus Storyland about $27, chaperones $17, streetcar $1.25 a ride or $3 pass. The weekend runs about $130 to $160 before lodging. Priced September 2026.
- Timing that matters. Arrive at the 11am opening and ride the carousel first. Streetcar before 10am or after 3pm. Skip Bourbon Street with kids: the Quarter is better at 10am than 10pm.
- Rain and crowd backups. Rain: Louisiana Children’s Museum on Saturday, a covered streetcar round trip on Sunday. Crowds: timed daily tickets cap the carousel, but arrive at opening anyway.

The Beignet Run

Where to get them hot, and what to do after. Line-skipping timing, what to order, and the perfect walk to follow.
- The exact spot. Cafe du Monde, 800 Decatur St, across from Jackson Square in the French Market. The original, open 24 hours most days.
- Dated prices. One order is three beignets, roughly $3 to $4. Two orders plus two cafe au laits comes to about $12 to $15, and Cafe du Monde is cash only. Priced September 2026.
- Timing that matters. Go before 9am or after 9pm. The worst line is 10am to 2pm, especially weekends. If the sit-down tent looks packed, the takeaway window moves fast.
- The 60-minute evening walk after. Moon Walk toward the Natchez dock as the sun drops, cut back on Dumaine to Royal Street, end at Jackson Square lit up.
- Crowd backups. Cafe Beignet on Royal St or Morning Call in City Park when the line is hopeless.
